Recommended application rates

Application rates vary based on lawn size. To get the best results, follow the recommended usage for your lawn’s square footage. Not sure how big your lawn is? Use our Lawn Size Calculator to get an estimate and apply with confidence.

Smaller lawn: 500 to 1,000 sq ft

  • Use 1/4 of the pouch per application. Spray for about 2.5 minutes to ensure even coverage. One pouch will give you up to 4 applications for lawns of this size. For best results, reapply every 2 weeks.

Average lawn: 1,000 to 2,000 sq ft

  • Use half the pouch for each application. Spray for about 5 minutes to ensure even coverage. You’ll get two applications from one pouch for a lawn this size. For best results, apply again after 2 weeks.

Larger lawn: 2,000 to 5,000 sq ft

  • Use the full pouch for each application. Spray for about 10 minutes to ensure even coverage. You’ll get one application from one pouch for a lawn this size.

Bigger lawn up to 10,000 sq ft

  • For larger lawns, you’ll need one pouch per 5,000 sq ft per application. Spray for about 10 minutes per pouch to ensure even coverage.

Pro Tip: Use the clear strip on the back of the pouch to track how much product you’re using - it makes partial applications easy and accurate.

Apply at a steady pace to cover your entire lawn. It's better to move faster and have some fertilizer leftover than to run out before covering your entire lawn. Emptying the pouch should take about 10-15 minutes.

Liquid lawn fertilizer tips from our experts

Our liquid fertilizers deliver nutrients directly to the grass through the leaves, promoting rapid absorption.

Follow an all-liquid fertilizer program by applying nutrients every two weeks during the growing season.

Timing is everything. Application should be made early morning or late afternoon to avoid the scorching heat of the day. Delay application if your lawn is not adequately hydrated or if heavy rain is forecasted.

For optimal absorption, allow the nutrients to dry on the grass blades and avoid watering your lawn for at least eight hours after application. Normal irrigation will facilitate nutrient penetration into the soil, feeding your grass from the roots up.

Fertilizer alone won't fix a troubled lawn, so be sure to address any issues like disease, pests, weeds, or drought separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I avoid fertilizing my lawn?

Avoid fertilizing right before heavy rain, as nutrients can wash away before being absorbed. Don’t apply during extreme heat or drought, stressed grass can be damaged by added nutrients. Late fall is also not ideal, since grass growth slows and fertilizer won’t be fully used. For newly seeded lawns, wait until the grass has germinated and grown enough to be mowed at least once. Applying too early can overwhelm young roots or wash away with watering. Always check conditions and apply when the lawn is actively growing and ready to take in nutrients.

What if I miss an application or get delayed by weather?

Life happens — whether it’s summer travel, back-to-school season, or unexpected weather, it’s easy to miss a scheduled application. The good news? Missing a dose won’t harm your lawn. Just pick up where you left off and space out future applications by at least 2 weeks. If your lawn looks like it needs a boost after a delay (e.g. signs of stress or yellowing), go ahead and apply the missed pouch as soon as conditions are good. For best results, try to apply when the weather is calm and dry for at least 24 hours.

Can I use leftover from last season?

Yes! Most of our nutrients are good for up to three years after you receive them. Just make sure to shake the pouch well with the cap sealed before spraying, as ingredients can settle over time. Leftover pouches can be easily worked into your current plan or upcoming season’s applications. It’s a great way to reduce waste and still get great results.

How can I deal with weeds naturally, and is overseeding a good idea?

Yes! If you're looking to control weeds without harsh chemicals, overseeding and proper feeding are two of the most effective natural strategies. Overseeding adds new grass seed to thin or bare areas, helping to thicken your lawn and crowd out weeds. Pairing that with liquid fertilizer gives young grass the nutrients it needs to establish quickly and compete with unwanted plants. You can also hand-pull weeds or use natural treatments for spot control.
